2016 what a year it has been, it’s has absolutely flown by, it seems like only yesterday I was counting down to New Year!
I have been lucky enough to be on maternity leave for the whole of this year. It means I’ve spent so much more time with the kids and had a lot more fun. It’s funny how you don’t mind the school holidays that much when you’re not juggling childcare plans! I’ve really enjoyed the opportunity to be there for the kids, I’ve spent more time with the boys over the summer when I would usually have been working. This has worked out really well as they needed more attention after welcoming their sister.
My highlight has been Darcey’s safe arrival on New Year’s Day. She has completed our family and bought us so much joy.
This has been a ridiculously busy year for my hubby. Work has been great for him but meant that he has had to be away from home more than usual. Being self employed it’s not something that he can turn down though. He’s pleased the house is almost finished, until I find some more jobs!
The best bits of this year have obviously been having Darcey and spending time with my family. When work is so busy coming home to everyone makes it all worthwhile.
I can’t believe that Will is now in Year 5 at school. How has he suddenly gotten so big, we are now looking at secondary schools and grammar tests. Will has changed so much this year becoming a big brother again. I couldn’t be more proud of him he is the most amazing boy. He is so caring and takes on so much responsibility helping me and looking after his siblings. My heart just wants to burst when I think about how much he does and how much I love him.
His highlight this year has been all the family days out we’ve had. We haven’t been able to afford a holiday so we’ve made the most of what we have at home.
Benny has had a great year, he has been a great big brother to Darcey. He says she is his favourite girl in the whole world. The two of them are completely crazy together and have lots of fun. I was worried how he would feel not being the youngest anymore but he just adores her. He is doing really well at school and in sports. He’s started playing football and is continuing with his tennis.
His most memorable moment this year was breaking his arm. In true Benny style he was so brave and once he had some pain relief even managed to make us laugh. Honestly a 7 year old on Gas and Air says the funniest things. He wasn’t even worried about the operations to pin it back together. I’m so proud of how brave he is and the way he just takes life in his stride. I love him to the moon and back.
How can a baby change so much in the course of 1 year, and how can that year go so quickly? Slow down Darcey stay little for as long as possible. Her character is really starting to come out now, she has her brothers (and daddy!) wrapped around her little finger. She shrieks loudly when she wants them to do something for her.
Darcey you have completed us and made us all better people this year. We have all grown and you are the little princess that has sparked this good change in us. When I asked our family they all said that having you was the best thing ever.
2017 will bring lots of changes for us as I go back to work and we all settle into our new routines. But I’m welcoming a new challenge and we are all looking forward to what 2017 will bring us.
What has been your highlight of 2016?
