28 weeks pregnant

28 weeks

How the little bean has developed;

  • I’m now as big as an aubergine
  • I’m 37.6 cm long, I’ve grown about 1cm a week over the last 3 weeks and I weigh 2.22lbs now
  • I’ve started to open my eyes and take a few blinks although it is pretty dark in here, my eyes won’t get their final colour until I’m born and they are exposed to light
  • My length may not be growing quickly but I am getting chubbier which is good, I need to make sure I’m a good cuddly size when I meet you
  • I’m working on my muscle development and tone, I bet mummy has really enjoyed the football matches I’ve been playing this week

Mummy update

With each week that goes by I’m getting more and more excited about meeting the little bean. If she was to arrive early I know she has a 95% chance of survival at this point if she gets the right medical care. With the problems I’m starting to have this is a nice to know, I’m sure she isn’t going to arrive too soon but there’s always that worry in the back of my mind.

I spoke to soon on last weeks update about the braxton hicks! Low and behold they started this week and haven’t been much fun, I was awake googling what is and isn’t normal in the middle of the night! Check out my update.

So far I’ve put on about 12lbs this pregnancy and I haven’t yet got the line down my stomach although I’m sure that will appear shortly. My weight gain and bump size seem to have really slowed down over the past 2 weeks but the midwife is happy with the measurements.

Day to Day life

Last weekend Ben had a joint 7th birthday party with 3 other children from his class. It was a great morning, we went to a local soft play centre and the kids got to run around and use up some of their boundless energy. Then they all got to make their own stuffed toy to take home and finished off with food and cake. Ben had a great time and I was really happy with the party, the party hosts sorted everything out for us so it was a very easy party from my perspective.

The boys have started half term this week, as I’m not very mobile it’s finding activities that I can actually manage to do. We got homework out of the way with on day 1 so we could enjoy the rest of the week. Will just had to make a leaflet about fair trade chocolate which was quite fun and Ben had a worksheet to do so it didn’t take us too long. Then we have just been getting into the Halloween spirit this week, watching movies and sorting out our fancy dress for a party.

Building work has slowed down slightly this week but the roof is nearly finished and then we can see the whole space for the first time. I’ve had to finalise the kitchen, order appliances, radiators and lighting. Thank goodness online shopping and home delivery!

Health update

I had an appointment with the consultant on Tuesday who’s pleased with how everything is going. I’m coping on the crutches and although it isn’t ideal that I’m not able to walk unaided the baby is fine, which is the main thing. I’m going to see him again in 4 weeks as long as everything is fine in between.

It has been a struggle having the boys home this week as I’ve not really been able to rest as much as I have been and I’m getting more pain and braxton hicks which isn’t good. The baby has definitely moved lower down into my pelvis now and the bump looks completely different, somehow smaller and lower. This means I’ve got some lower back pain and also pressure in my pelvis. It’s not ideal as when I feel her kick or move it seems to be directly around my pubic bone which is already so tender.

On the other hand I’m getting less pain around my ribs now she’s moved which makes eating a bit easier. I guess I can’t have it both ways something is going to hurt! The morphine I’m taking is suppressing my appetite so Im not particularly hungry at the moment and it’s not long before I feel full up. It’s also making me really thirsty so I’m drinking plenty of lemon squash at the moment which seems to be my new favourite thing. Anything cold and citrusy is what I’m craving, which isn’t a bad craving to have at all, if only I was allowed to drink the frozen mojitos that I love so much!

You’ve done well only putting on 12lb, sorry to hear that you are on morphine I hope things get easier for you. You could try a mock mojito? We use to make them in the Summer and added some fresh lime juice to give a bit more of a kick instead of the rum! 🙂 xx #fartglitter.

You’re looking beautiful. Your son is the spitting image of you. I’m glad his birthday was a success and low stress for you. Boo that you’re still quite uncomfortable. Do the doctor foresee any let up in that department? Hope you’re managing OK. Thanks for linking up to #fartglitter x

Thanks hun that’s lovely. I think the only cure is delivering the baby and just pain management and rest for the time being. It will be completely worth it in the end though. only another 10-12 weeks to go! xx

Glad to hear baby is doing well despite everything. I can imagine how hard it must be having your boys home during the day, I only have the one at home with me and she’s like a whirlwind at times, I can’t keep up!

Nice update, glad baby doing well, though a shame pregnancy is causing so many mobility issues and pain. Glad you can get all the house stuff ordered online! #fartglitter

I’ve just been reading about braxton hicks as I was really un comfortable last night with all sorts of weirdness going on. I’d totally forgotten about that line people get. I never had it with Dexter so who knows this time round. Good luck with everything
